HISTORY STARTS NOW:

JERICHO CAMPAIGN TO TAKE TO THE AIRWAVES

How do you grab the attention of the powers-that-be in Hollywood about our never-say-die attitude regarding our beloved Jericho?  How do Jericho fans still make their determined presence known?  We’ve already conquered nutty mail deliveries; we have seized promotion opportunities through print; we have loudly promoted our favorite show and its quest for a new home in a strategically placed sky-high billboard in Los Angeles.  So, what next?  That was the question we presented to ourselves when pondering other avenues to force the entertainment industry into hearing us in a big way on our march to resurrect Jericho. Our conclusion?  Time to take to the airwaves!!

After some long, detailed phone calls and a commitment that our plan had some viability, we launched a massive fundraising campaign on May 9, 2008, to do what’s never been done before in Jericho Rangers’ never-ending quest to make history.  Armed with a gracious commitment by the Jericho community’s very own and very talented RubberPoultry to create a first-ever TV commercial that best represented us, we worked out a deal that would give us a powerful ad with airings at strategic times on strategic channels such as the Sci-Fi, History, and Discovery channels?  Thus, we embarked on a full-out exercise to create and/or maintain awareness of Jericho fans’ efforts in and around the Hollywood industry area where a decision about the resurrection of Jericho would most likely originate. 

Under a proposal presented to us from Time-Warner in LA (holding 97% of the market share in that area), we pursued a 10-day scheduled run in demographic markets that target people in the 25-49 age category, with higher-level incomes, and interests in and around the entertainment industry, including zones around Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and the East and South San Fernando Valley.   

Looking to get the most bang for our buck and needing to raise funding post-haste, Jericho fans once again proved that their determination never sleeps.  From the May 9th kickoff of the TV ad campaign to the final date of donations on June 1 (two days shy of the deadline date!), fans from all over the world kicked in $6,314.88 to fund the over 200 commercials scheduled for airing in the LA area.   Individual donations ranged anywhere from $1 to $500, and they came not only from the United States, but from other places across the globe – Sweden, Croatia, Australia, Canada, France, Spain, Romania, Netherlands — where people had fallen in love with a small middle-America town called Jericho.  Some people donated early and often, and others, with less wherewithal to do so, acted as cheerleaders, miners, and promoters.  It was a true team effort of diverse people from diverse backgrounds with a shared love for Jericho. 

How better to show Carol, Karim, Dan, and Jon that we’re still behind them 100% in finding a new home for Jericho?  How eloquently can we show Jericho’s cast and crew that we want them back? How loudly can we show other interested parties considering giving Jericho and our fan base a new home that we’re loyal, committed, and never-wavering — that we dig in and fight for something that’s so important and meaningful to us?

Well, working together, we think we’ve done that!!  Jericho Rangers have already given so much in time, dollars and effort….but we aren’t ready to concede to a hinky ratings system and a lack of appreciation for a show that’s touched our hearts unlike any other.
