What’s Old is New Again, Hope Springs Eternal, and Other Worthy Clichés
OK, it’s Week 2 of Jericho’s airing on The CW Network this past Sunday. It’s our “little show that could,” the twice-canceled post-apocalyptic drama that has found new life (again!), the spark that keeps the flame alive in the hearts of fans who want more shock and awe from that beautiful-but-flawed Green boy, the badder-than-Jack-Bauer Robert Hawkins and his quietly tough wife “Dah-cy,” Major Hottie Beck, the butt-kickin’ Jericho women, and the rest of the townfolk whom we love as if we all co-existed here and now in our own world, with its current economic and battle-weary woes.
So, how are we doing? Well, it looks as if viewership fell from the first week’s 1.3 million folks watching Jericho to 1.13 million this past Sunday, according to TVbythenumbers.com. But Variety had a little different spin on it today:
CW continues to see improvement over its disastrous early-season Sunday sked, as the combo of “Jericho” (0.4/1 in 18-49, 1.1 million viewers overall) and the 1992 movie “Cutting Edge” (0.6/1 in 18-49, 1.6 million viewers overall) gave the net its best performance on the night this fall.
In addition, our resident statistician Barney pulled together this latest compilation of info:
-
Jericho fan-made television ad continues with 4-week run on the UHD channel.
-
Jericho television show, which has been cancelled twice, has been off the air since March 2008, but returned to network television on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at 7:00pm EST on the CW. Despite having only 8 days notice, no promotion from the CW or CBS, starting up on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and opposite two live football games, the show still managed 1.3 million viewers, which was a significant increase for the CW in that time slot for Sunday nights.
-
CBS decided to put all 22 episodes of Jericho Season 1 on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D9B106198C36985E; http://uk.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D9B106198C36985E (for outside US)
-
Since the fans started going to site across the internet on November 8, 2008 and posting the link to the CBS playlist on Youtube, the number of views has climbed from 1,000 to 679,200 as of December 7th.

You are also invited to check out the Jericho community at UniversalHD (UHD) which is currently airing Jericho each afternoon at 2:00pm and on Saturday and Sunday nights. http://boards.nbcuni.com/universalHD/index.php?showforum=29
And, finally, here’s the UHD media flight schedule for Dec. 11-14. On Thursday, December 11, look for our TV ad at 8:38 a.m., 11:54 a.m., 1:08 p.m., 2:05 p.m., 2:50 p.m., 3:34 p.m., 4:59 p.m., and 5:35 p.m. On Friday, December 12, you can see it at 9:21a.m., 10:28 a.m., 11:17 a.m., 12:20 p.m., 1:43 p.m., 6:05 p.m., and 6:53 p.m. The weekend evening schedule looks like this: On Saturday, December 13, you can catch the ad at 7:37 p.m., 8:31p.m., and 9:31 p.m., and on Sunday, December 14, you can find it at 7:16 p.m., 8:19 p.m., and 8:59 p.m.
Since I am the Queen of a Cliché (though I forgot how to put my little accent thing-y over the ‘e,’ until fan Mike Weber educated me on a character map — thanks, Mike!!), I would love to pepper you with lots more as they relate to Jericho, but since I’m dog tired and no better than a knot on a log for creativity (or lack thereof), I won’t bore you to tears…except to say this: I love our fight for Jericho, and I’m proud to have been a part of it. All those figures above could mean anything — or they could mean nothing. It is what it is, and I will take it that way. Either way, I am going to continue to enjoy the ride on The CW, as well as the many friendships we’ve built that sustain us. For now, my ignorance is bliss, and I’m loving living again in Jake Green’s world, even with the nukes and lack of good chocolate.
Julie/Welcome
P.S. OK, I threw in a few. So, sue me.

I definitely like “Variety”’s take on the situation. I’m also pleased that Jericho seems to be pretty successful for the CW.
Barney never ceases to amaze with what he accomplishes. Another successful TV ad campaign. Congrats to everyone who made this happen, and more importantly, kudos to the Jericho fans for making it possible.

Julie, the cliches are just part of your charm. I don’t know how to do the little accent thingy, either. I, too, am proud of all we have done, and I’m better for knowing all you wonderful Rangers. Hope you and all our Jericho Rangers have a magical Christmas, and more, new Jericho in 2009.

Hi everyone,
I am new here but my husband and I have fallen in love with the characters of Jericho almost overnight. We watched the entire series (so far, hopefully) in about a week, the first half of the first season in one night. Jericho does rock. I don’t know how shows do that but some just get under your skin! (Like Firefly). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about what the cast is up to now? Have they moved on to another show or are they waiting this out? I’m just worried that you guys worked so hard to get Jericho back just to have it not be the same because the cast isn’t the same? That would suck!!! Any insight?

Hi artsee! Welcome to the world of Jericho! So glad to have you.
The Jericho cast and crew are busy doing other projects, because just like us, they need to work to eat, pay bills, etc. And while we would love them back as Jericho-ers, we truly care about them and want them to have all the opportunities they deserve. Do their projects preclude them from anything related to Jericho? Don’t really know, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Not much else we can do at this point.
In my mind — if nothing else — all our hard work proved to be a tip of the hat to the actors, writers, producers, crew, etc. for a job well done. I feel proud that we have been able to show them in a very public way that they touched us and that their work mattered. No matter what happens, I won’t ever feel like our work to show appreciation to them has been a waste of time.
Andreas, I don’t know the answer to your questions, so I am going to have to leave it to our resident techie RP for answers, if he has them. I live in the U.S. but don’t have access to UHD, so I’m not seeing the ad, either.
Thanks for all your interest!

Hey Julie,
I love the cliches – okay, don’t know how to do the little thingy, either. But keep ‘em up!
The commercial looks awesome on TV, youtube views are over 1,000,000 and Jericho has a regular timeslot again on a regular channel. Can you imagine all the new fans we’re getting?
We are reaping the rewards of all our hard work now. We’ve done an amazing job of getting the word out about Jericho (of course, that’s something CBS should have done in 2006). We’ve even converted some of the media critics who thought we were just NUTS! All they had to do was watch it, right?
It SHOULD lead to more Jericho, but if not, I’m so happy to have met this great group of people that comprise the Jericho fandom. You are all amazing!
But like I said, it SHOULD lead to more Jericho. So come on CBS-Paramount: Let’s Make A Deal!

I just want to say that I am so jealous. I have never been a part of something like this before and I’m just now coming in at the end.
I wish I could have been with you guys from the beginning.
Anyway, I also just wanted to say that you are all an inspiration to me. I have tried to fight for countless things in my life and am starting a project that I know will be hard. I’ve never been good at “sticking things out”. But from now on whenever I feel like giving up I will just think of you guys and the passion that you all have.
Thank you so much for fighting for Jericho. Even if we lose Jericho forever (but of course they will always be in our hearts) you have shown that passion, perseverance and creativity can do wonders.
